Spider Vein These are unsightly vascular deformity with red to bluish hue under the skin. It is usually located at the lower extremity, in particular the knee, leg and ankle area. Women were notably more prone to develop this vascular malfunction or deformity. There are a lot of treatment options for spider vein such as, laser treatment, support/compression stockings and sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is the most popular treatment modality, because of its lower cost and effectiveness. This is a simple office procedure that involves injecting a sclerosing solution which causes the vein to collapse and then fade from view after some time. This is performed either with or without using topical anesthetics (EMLA). Support stockings or elastic bandage are usually applied at the leg area to minimize swelling, bruising and prevent development of unsightly vascular lesion at other area of the lower extremity. Bruising and swelling eventually fades after 1 to 2 weeks.
