Breast Reduction The procedure involves the removal of fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. The goal is to give the woman smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body. This is done under general anesthesia, with patient confined for a few days in the hospital. This may be indicated in male patient that have persistent gynecomastia of more than two years. Suture are removed on the 4th or 7th day post-op. There is swelling of the breast after the procedure that usually subsides after several weeks.
